Activities and cooperation

  • The foundation is a member of the Balkan Seed Network (balkanseednetvork.com) founded in 2021.

The network consists of different organizations - seed savers, breeders, scientists, farmers, gardeners, associations, research institutes and educational institutions active in the Balkans.

The purpose of the network is to improve and strengthen the preservation and sustainable use of agrobiodiversity in agriculture through organic production and agroecology..

The activities are aimed at stimulating resilient food systems and establishing a paradigm of cooperation, within the rich biodiversity and agricultural heritage of the Balkans.

FThe Foundation is a founder and active participant in CoP - Community of Practice, a regional activity on agroecology led by Schola Campesina, Italy (scholacampesina.org). The result of these activities is the establishment of the BILIM network (www.bilim.network).

BILIM is an interregional and multilingual platform for the agroecology network created by a community of agroecological schools and organizations of small farmers from Europe and Central Asia.

This Network supports the coordinated work of agroecology advocacy, the implementation of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP - ohchr.org) and the pursuit of food sovereignty.

It was built on the 11 pillars of the Nyéléni Declaration on Agroecology (eurovia.org). The Community of Practice promotes the horizontal exchange of knowledge and the building of political capacities at the national and regional level in order to solve local problems caused by the agro- industrial food model and encourage changes towards a more just society.

The Community of Practice is the result of more than 4 years of networking supported by the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia, and currently by the FAO Agroecological Funds.

In 2022, the Foundation implemented a project in cooperation with Arche Noah (Austria) on the conservation of vegetable seeds on the farm, and the result was the establishment of a joint seed bank (Community Seed Bank). The Foundation is a participating partner in the project "INWHEATORI -Inventorying wheat on-farm diversity", which was approved in December 2022 as a result of the 6th call of the tenth phase of the European Cooperation Program for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR ) of the program (2018-203). (vvv.ecpgr.cgiar.org) The result of successful cooperation with the Grassroot Institute from Canada (https://grassrootsinstitute.net/) is a partnership in the founding and publishing of the international journal on agrobiodiversity and acroecology (grassrootsjournals.org).

The Foundation is the general partner for the Summer Field School (hybrid) - FSc MER 2023 Mountain Ecosystem and Resource Management, which will be held on Mountain Igman (Sarajevo, BiH) from September 10 to 19, 2023 also as a result of this cooperation. (grassrootsglobal.net).
